preping the acid green egyptian lycra for cairo caravan. fingers so tired of crystal chain. waist band and hem will wait till morning.

open note to egyptian costume beaders:  "please please please knot the ends of your threads so i don't have to spend hours finishing your work!" why can they do the most exquisite hand beading and keep the stretch in the fabric but neglect to knot the end of the thread to secure the design on the fabric?

the latest show/festival dvds ripped for your viewing pleasure :p

the custom jazz fusion costume from miss kate.  most comfortable costume ever!  thanks again

yay! good weekend

finished major deadline. fabulous massage from [info]animaetrix00 nautilusbodywork.com highly recommend! 2 shows @ zorba's. 1 club. 1 wedding.

both shows @ zorba's went well. except miss "a" cut her foot on some shattered glass on the stage. ouch! (see psa below) and we had a frantic moment back stage. luckily i had a backup pair of old ballet slippers in my gig bag and she was able to finish the show in those, then clean her poor foot.

sword obediently stayed on my head through out the whole act, both sets. even through the floor work and 4 splits turns.

i love that old saroyan sword. it is the perfect weight and is still perfectly balanced after all its travels.

the new crazy leopard pants were perfect. not transparent at all due to the black lining. sequins were just shiny enough for the edges without being too obvious. material doesn't wrinkle and has the perfect amount of "slip" for the floor work. i'll post video when i can take a moment to learn how to get it from the camera, edit it and reformat to web post. please don't hold breath ;)

wedding this evening was good, once the band got organized. there's always some glitch or delay at weddings, but the show made the party very happy. posed for lots of pics with the kids and babies. this seems to be a more common request lately. no drunken uncles tried to crash the dance floor during the show. that's always nice :p they were polite, pleasant, appreciative and paid promptly at the end of the show and i went home.

the only sort of strange thing was that they had 3 big overhead crane cameras which were stationed on the corners of the dance floor. they were sort of chasing me and the 3 other dancers at some points during the show and it became challenging to do the cane act while sharing the dance floor with 3 overhead cams and no rehearsal to work out floor patterns to avoid crashes. we all winged it and it worked out fine.
overall a totally normal gig.

zorba's gig ended early enough to meet friends at the club. almost everyone was there. good times.

next weekend i'll be back @ zorba's for 2 shows on the 8th. the ceiling is too low for my oversized isis wings, so must think up another prop cause don't like repeating the same prop too frequently and have recently done silk veil, sword and khaliji [debatable whether a thobe nashal can be classified as a prop, but it is at that club. perhaps we should call them "specialty acts" instead of props]

hmmm, maybe i'll wear the black and red costume and force myself to create a silk fan dance, with the black and red fans, that will hold the audience's attention for 2 min. silk fans, as many of you know, are notorious for being either exquisite or inducing narcolepsy, but not much in between. this will be a good challenge. even more challenging will be locating them in the abyss of the bin-o-small-props

and guess who's coming to town next weekend? ;) yeah, i'm so excited. we'll be @ the club on sat.

psa: miss "a" cut her foot on some shattered glass on the stage during the show last night. 2 cuts actually. she said it still hurts tonight. just another reminder to wear shoes and protect your feet during restaurant & catering hall gigs.
