 preping the acid green egyptian lycra for cairo caravan. fingers so tired of crystal chain. waist band and hem will wait till morning.  

open note to egyptian costume beaders:  "please please please knot the ends of your threads so i don't have to spend hours finishing your work!" why can they do the most exquisite hand beading and keep the stretch in the fabric but neglect to knot the end of the thread to secure the design on the fabric?

we shot the dance scenes for the mardi gras band video today.  it was so much fun.  they asked us to bring our own costumes. 
who knew my '80s turkish fringe dress, a '90s lucy style egyptian tiara and some gothy fence net arm covers equal a mardi gras costume?
this is a not-so-great still on the green screen.  will post link to video when its released.
wait till you see lady borgia's head dress.  she looks like a burlesque mardi gras indian. so cool.

i am still @ my desk. can't wait to get out this weekend and see friends and dance.

new costume by susan teal debuting @ sameda faire. so excited. can't believe i found a second to get the hooks placed :p

the stage curtain, backdrop and floor are all black so obviously that means...giant gold lame isis wings from amity. hehe [the fabric, not the insult]

had to rethink my previously selected skirt and wings because they won't read well on a black background. last year it was burgundy and that would've been ok, but black... without costuming caution it can be an unintentional mumenchantz torso with floating head moment. interesting in an '80s performance art sort of way, but totally not what i'm going for in the way of experimental for this act.

gonna have to wear some highlighted hair too if the video and pics are to register that i have hair, against that black backdrop. must dig in the bin-o-stagehair tomorrow.

lighting will likely be overhead white industrials. not the most flattering so must be plan accordingly. bring on the blush!

hopefully some good pics will result. if not, will stage some after this deadline. susan put a tremendous amount of work into the costume and she deserves some decent pics of it for her folio.

ok. its 3am and i just got back from the after party. the night manager at the hotel is letting me use his 'puter, cause i just can't be unplugged so long.

will post a full run down of the whole amazing adventure. seriously, this was an awesome experience. all kinds of uber tastic happenings like an impromptu private lesson from elizabeth artemis mourat on how to play the turkish spoons like a proper romani! who could ask for more. i really want to bring her to san diego to do a workshop. she is incredibly knowledgeable.

my show went well. lots of fun. will post pics and video as soon as i get them.
so many amazing dancers. will write on it later.

laura rocked the mike all sat night. quite possibly the funniest, most natural mc ever.

the indigo did the cupcake fight on stage. hehe

have met lots of dancers, vendors and musicians irl. always nice to put a face and a hand shake to digital friends.

over all, a very well run event. impressive.
so tired. must sleep. will do a proper writeup when i get back home.
